Norea Mediemisjon - Norway

Norea Mediemisjon was started by Norwegian Lutheran Mission (NLM) in 1956. The first program in Norwegian was aired from North Africa on December 30. 1956 on radio station The Voice of Tangier. Dr. Paul Freed had started this radio ministry in Tangier, and Mediemisjon joined in, taking responsibility for the broadcast in Norwegian language.

In 1959/60 the radiostation in Tangier was closed down due to problems with the authorities in the country. In 1961 Trans World Radio succeded in buying new facilities in Monte Carlo. Norea Mediemisjon broadcast programs from Monte Carlo up to 1993.

Today all broadcasts in Norwegian aredone inside the country but Norea Mediemisjon still support programs in other languages that are transmitted from TWR facilities.

Norea Mediemisjon started focusing on radio ministry to other countries for 1963 and today Norea is involved in programs on more than 20 languages around the world.

Norea Mediemisjon is a part of the Norwegian Lutheran Mission Media center at Gimlekollen in Kristiansand, Norway. It is an independent organisation owned by the NLM.

  • the Media College,
  • LYNOR technical department,
  • Norea Mediemisjon, department of media mission and
  • GIMRA the local radio station.

50 YEARS OF BROADCASTING

During an international conference held in Oslo, Norway during October 2006, more than 1,000 people paid tribute to longtime Trans World Radio-Europe partner Norea Mediemisjon.

The “Hope for Life and Eternity” event included a special 50th anniversary dinner and celebration concert.
