BARAKA FM LAUNCHES 4th FEBRUARY
During 1999, FEBA Kenya were granted a licence to establish
the first Christian FM radio station in Mombassa,
the country's second largest city.
Although without staff or studio, Baraka FM - Baraka
is Swahili for "Blessings" - was quickly
put on air once the licence was received and, using
a temporary transmitter/antenna, marked the frequency by playing
music.
Now, with the station's permanent transmitter tower
and other equipment in place at Mazeras, 8 miles
from Mombasa, and work on the two studios and partitioning
of several offices in the city completed, BARAKA FM is officially
set to launch on 4th February 2000
Launch day begins in the morning with a road show consist
of a van with Public Address System and announcers
from Baraka driving to different parts of the
city to interview people. Then a music extravaganza is planned,
with various music groups performing to the public in the citypark.
These events are intended to get as many people involved in the
event as possible.
The main event will be early afternoon, with the cutting
of a ribbon at the studios, for which invitations
have been sent to VIPs and the press.
The station will be bi-lingual, Swahili broadcasts will
be on from 6am to 2pm followed by programmes in
English to 6am. The broadcast schedule will
have news, short features, interviews and music.
