Although perhaps not a well known name in Christian broadcasting, Radio Voice of the Gospel has a distinguished history, alongside ELWA in Liberia, of Christian broadcasting in Africa, although modified over the years through political change.
RVOG Congo was established in 1958 by Baptist missionary Bill Battishill and his wife. The work continued until 1976 when the Bill Battishall and his wife returned to the USA to retire and no other persons came forward to continue the radio work.
At that that time the studio used the transmitters of the State broadcaster to air 4 programmes for a total of 2.5 hours each week.
Sometime following the closure of the radio production, Congolese Pastor Ezra Kasereka wrote a project and sent it to a number of friends. The result was that, after 48 years Studio Sauti ya Habari Njema came on air from own 250 watt FM tranmsitter on on 89.0 MHz.
Today the station serves all Christian churches and is on air for over 72 hours each week, with programming covering Gospel teaching, development , health, Tribe-Reconciliation, and Reading and writing.
The station opens at 4:45am each morning and broadcasts until 9:00 am. In the afternoon programmes are heard from 3:45 pm up to 10:00pm.
Programmes are aired in 9 language, including special programmes for the Pygmees in their own language.
The staff at Redio Sauti ya Injili ask all people to remember the studio in their prayers. Their work is hard with limited equipment and frequenct power interruputions.
