Cyclone Hits Radio 93FM

Cyclones are a fact of life in the South Pacific Islands. Every year they visit, moving south through either Polynesia (to the east) or Melanesia (to the west).

The Islands are sparsely populated so there's seldom a great loss of life, but the storms cause a lot of damage and people are often left without drinking water and crops are destroyed for many months afterwards.
Radio 93FM was off the air.

". . . Antenna broken in 3 different places have repaired but we need a crane to put it back up there is a available crane but we don't have the money. The roof for the transmitter need to replace whole new roof and the house of the transmitter need to replace also prefer a cement (concrete block) house."

Prayer went up, a technician was despatched from New Zealand to assist in getting the station back on air, and an appeal was made for finance.

On 23rd February good news was received.

"Glad to let you know that the antenna is up and the radio is back on air now. We make a good trip to the top of the mast yesterday [in the crane bucket] eventhough it was scarely and windy and the bucket we are in the floor there is a hole there and with the wind it swinging around but anyway we made it and we back on air now. Thank you for praying we are now on track now."

The transmitter didn't suffer any water damage and God's people responsed to this urgent need with e-mails and phone calls, prayers and donations, pledging enought money ed to pay for the crane hire and the technician's repairs.

Now thoughts will need to turn to provision of a sturdy block-built transmitter house to withstand future storms.

8 New Vision Relays

Eight new Vision Radio Network relay stations have gone on the air in Australia this year, bringing the nationwide count to a 237.

The network aims to “connect faith to life” through contemporary music from local and international artists such as Third Day, Newsboys, Rebecca St. James and Paul Colman.

Talk radio also plays an important role on the stations, giving a Christian perspective on contemporary issues and explaining what the Bible has to say about life today.

The network also carries programs by well-known personalities such as James Dobson, Greg Laurie, Joyce Meyer, Bob Gass and Billy Graham.

Broadcasts provide discipleship materials

American evangelist Sammy Tippit recently traveled to India for a marathon - a preaching marathon.

In three days, Tippit preached and filmed 20 broadcasts in Hindi. Simultaneously those broadcasts were translated into Tamil and Telegu, for a total of 60 messages that will reach three key languages in India.

Tippit's desire is to produce discipleship and leadership materials for the growing Christian community in India. He has partnered with Good News Television for several years to help bring about that goal of strengthening the church.

There are plans to place the discipleship and leadership series of broadcasts on Sammy Tippit Ministries' website by mid summer. They hope to also add several more key languages that will be of benefit to the growing Asian churches.

These broadcasts will help reach countless numbers of people with the Gospel. Pray for Tippit as he repeats this preaching marathon in other major Asian languages.

Shalom Romalen

A new weekly 30-minute program in the Serbian Romani language has begun airing for Gypsies in Serbia. The new program is called Shalom Romalen (Peace to the Roma).

A 2005 TWR-sponsored trip to Serbia with several Christian radio executives resulted in this project which prompted Blount Communications to support the program through a radio campaign.

Around 14,000 Romani live in Leskovac alone, with about 100,000 in the whole region. Shalom Romalen is aired on five FM stations, while several more local stations in the region are also expressing a desire to air it. The production team, consisting of members from the Romani Protestant-Evangelical church, also desires to air the program on medium wave (AM) so the wider Romani community can be reached.

TWR-Serbia and Montenegro, TWR's partner in Serbia, built a small studio and provided training for the production of Shalom Romalen. An additional part of the project is the distribution of solar radios to the local Romani population so they can hear God's word in their own language.

UCB Ireland Seeks Licence

Having waited over 10 years, United Christian Broadcasters is finally preparing to apply for a National Religious Radio licence for Ireland.

This follows an announcement by the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI) that applications will be sought for a National Religious Radio Service on AM and FM in July 2006.

If successful, for the first time Irish people across Ireland will be able to listen to Christian radio with Irish presenters, testimonies and teaching from Irish people as well as many of their favourite programmes from UCB Europe.

This is not only an opportunity, but a God-given challenge: to produce programming that will minister to all of the Church and communicate the love of Jesus Christ to a society in need. UCB are currently looking for individuals and ministries who are already producing written or spoken material which could be used for broadcasting.

Another UCB ministry already impacting Ireland is Prayerline with over 200 people now phoning from Ireland every month for prayer and many of these have made first-time commitments to Jesus. This is another opportunity for Irish people to minister to Irish people and UCB would love to hear from churches interested in hosting a Prayerline satellite group for a few hours each week.

If you like to become involved in either UCB Ireland or Prayerline or find out more about these opportunities, please speak to Peter or Pauline Bradshaw or phone 01-4299899.

New TWR Licence Imminent

The birth of a new radio station is almost a reality. Trans World Radio believes the granting of a frequency is just days away. The antenna is up, the building it ready, all they need is a license and a transmitter and millions will be able to hear the Gospel in Benin, West Africa.

TWR's Steven Boakye-yiedom says a relationship with Benin President Mathieu Kerekou helped. "Kerekou is a born again Christian who loves the Lord. We told him the story of Trans World Radio and he got very excited and so he gave us an invitation to come there."

According to Boakye-yiedom, TWR could have an incredible kingdom impact in Benin. "If the station is complete we will be able to reach almost 112-million Muslims in that part of West Africa."

While many are poor and illiterate in Benin, Boakye-yiedom says, radio will be an effective evangelistic tool. "Radio is a friend to an African. Radio is affordable and every where you go, even in the village, people are really able to afford radio. And so, it's an instrument which actually is very useful to our Africans." And, that makes it a great evangelism tool.

Boakye-yiedom says he just received some good news. "We've already got a letter from the Issuing Authority in Benin, saying that once Trans World Radio pays their broadcasting fee, the license will be issued today. And so, we are trying to work it out."

They hope to transfer the $28,000 to Benin this week to get the license. If that happens they expect to be on the air as early as August, but no later than September.

Once it's on the air, funding will be needed to help sustain the ministry. 60-percent of the population is illiterate and are audio learners.

549kHz is Silent

From Irish Christian Broadcasters - http://www.icbradio.ie/

Yes after 5 1/2 years ICB is now silent and no longer transmitting ICB or UCB programs.

Dear Friends

This note is tinged with a mixture of emotions, as we have now turned off the 549 AM Transmitter in Monaghan having been re-broadcasting UCB Europe for the past 5 1/2 years from there on 549. Many lives have been touched by it, - under the footprint of its 'umbrella' reaching Ireland and Britain, and reaching an audience / footprint of potentially up to 30 million people.

The good news is that we are not done. We have been working now continuously to bring this together during 2005 and progressively in 2006. Plans are well advanced at this stage, we are working towards a National License and have begun a completely new project.

So while we are sorry that the audience will not now have Christian Radio available to them till a License is granted (probably early in 2007) we recognise it is all part of the process of becoming licensed as we have continuously been seeking, since September 2000. This past week ComReg Officials have instructed us to cease the retransmissions of UCB which we have now done.

All that remains for me to do at this stage is to thank the following people
* The Russian Federation and their Regulators - who allowed us to use their Frequencies of 549 AM and 846 AM - during the past 10 years for Christian Broadcasting to Britain and Ireland, and who have not objected to the transfer of these frequencies to Ireland, on ICB's initiative in 2002, for the purpose of Christian Broadcasting in Ireland
* UCB for providing us with a EU Regulated and Licensed Christian Service, which we could 're-transmit' in Ireland, while the prohibition on Christian Advertising exists and there continues to be an absence of licensed Christian Services available in Ireland.
* Members of the Dail Committees, who in November 1999 and April 2002, did all they could do to help us to regularise and get licenses to use these Russian Frequencies.
* Members of the Northern Ireland Assembly, who on June 12th 2000 voted unanimously for the 1st time, following 2hrs of public debate, - requesting that the Regulatory Authorities enable the Regulation and Licensing of these frequencies, for the use of Christian Radio in Ireland.
* All of our friends out there who have stood with us on this journey so far, and we hope will continue with us on the journey to come, in getting a license for Christian Radio in Ireland.
* The Founder Members / Board of Irish Christian Broadcasters - who have courageously stayed the course for the past 5 1/2 years while we have sought to progress toward the licensing of Christian Radio Services in Ireland

We are now on the brink of such an opportunity, and we give thanks to GOD for His provision for this and the prospect of there being a service available in Ireland, which will be meaningful to the Irish People, and will allow us to move forward with these very positive Mandates - in the Great Commission, and also as bestowed upon us in the Mandates from the Elected Parliaments both North and South of the border in Ireland.

Finally, please continue with us prayerfully on this journey. We trust the end is in sight and we will complete this journey. Please pray for us to do an excellent job, and for favour when it comes to proposing a Service to the BCI later in the year, which will meet and serve the needs of the peoples of this island

Irish Christian Broadcasters

P.S. - As many listeners will now be disconnected from this service, and may not know why, please feel free to pass on this mail to them, so they will be aware that they will be without it for 12-18 months, and God Willing, we will be back in 2007 with a world class offering, which will be all they hope for.
