UCB to go Nationwide ?

UCB have written to supporters to advise them of an opportunity to provide a national Christian radio service across one of the UK's national Digital Audio Broadcasting networks.

The UK governement presently intends that DAB in the UK will replace both AM and FM, other than for very local broadcasting, by 2015. DAB will then be the only way to receive national broadcasters like the BBC and Classic FM as well as major local commercial stations.

After 2013 all new UK cars must have DAB radios so UCB sees the need to be on DAB as a delivery platform.

UCB have been considering a national DAB platform for some time and are now satisfied that the place is there for them and now "it is simply now just a case of money".

UCB currently covers just over half of the UK on DAB, primarily in England and Northern Ireland with some coverage in Wales. A presence on one of the national DAB networks would enhance existing coverage including providing, for the first time, a service to Scotland.
